As Director of Development, Mark Johnson leads all development projects from concept planning through construction completion. Mark brings to his role two decades of financial, acquisition, and development experience with an extensive background in financial underwriting, equity/debt capitalization, and market research.

Prior to joining Cortland, Mark served as the Vice President of Development for The NRP Group, where he oversaw all aspects of the development process, including land sourcing and valuation, predevelopment, soft cost budgeting, zoning, entitlement, and asset sale. Mark’s development and acquisition experience also includes Vice President of Development for Fairfield Residential Company, LLC and asset management and development roles at JPI. Over the past 12 years of his career, Mark has managed the development of 22 projects throughout Texas and the Southeast, totaling over $700M in value and ranging from garden-style and mid-rise apartments to student housing.

In addition to his experience, Mark holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Southern Methodist University. He is also a member of both the Texas and US MENSA organizations.
