Dean Schwanke

Dean Schwanke is Vice President, Multifamily Housing with the National Association of Home Builders, where he serves as industry and organizational representative for NAHB’s multifamily housing program, including the Multifamily Council, the Multifamily Leadership Board, and the Multifamily Pillars of the Industry awards program. Previous to joining NAHB he served as Senior Vice President, Case Studies and Publications at the Urban Land Institute (ULI), where he directed the development of case studies, textbooks, and other publications. Prior to this he was Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the ULI Center for Capital Markets and Real Estate, which he planned and launched within ULI in 2009; in this role he provided oversight and direction for the annual Emerging Trends in Real Estate report and also developed and launched the ULI Real Estate Consensus Forecast.

Over the past thirty years he has directed the development of over 70 books and reports, and has personally authored or coauthored numerous publications, including the Mixed-Use Development Handbook and Multifamily Housing Development: Ten Case Studies of Innovative Projects. He has organized numerous conferences and made over 100 presentations at conferences on real estate trends, real estate finance and capital markets issues, place making, and mixed-use and retail development.

Schwanke holds a BA degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master of planning degree from the University of Virginia.
