John Isakson, Chief Capital Officer of Preferred Apartment Communities (NYSE: APTS), has spent his entire professional career in the real estate industry.  He has a broad depth of knowledge on the private, public and institutional side of the industry in acquisitions, dispositions, finance and asset management.  Currently, John oversees equity capital markets, finance, and investor relations for APTS as it grows both its multifamily and retail portfolio.

In his current role, John is responsible for the corporate and property level financings for both the parent company and its retail subsidiary, New Market Properties as well as the newly formed Preferred Office Properties subsidiary of the company.  He oversees equity capital market functions and manages the company’s ATM program.  In his investor relations role, John manages and liaises with the various analysts who cover the company’s common stock as well as investor communications for the company.

Prior to his role at APTS, John was a founding partner with John Williams in starting Williams Asset Management (WAM) in January 2006.  WAM was an investment and asset management firm that ran a private equity fund from 2006 to 2013.  Prior to his role at WAM, he had stints at Tarpon Development, Julian LeCraw and Company and Wachovia Bank.

In his previous roles, he has raised equity and debt and closed on transactions with a wide range of financial instruments.  He has participated in transactions ranging from acquisition and renovation of properties to the construction of high rise apartments to the refinancing and repositioning of a variety of apartment communities.  Throughout his real estate investment career, Isakson has participated in transactions representing over 36,000 units and over 4MM square feet of commercial space with a total capitalization of over $6.0billion.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Isakson is active in the community.  He has a long history of commitment to philanthropy; having served in various capacities for the Arthritis Foundation, Tulane University and the Atlanta Opera both locally and nationally.  He spent two terms on the Arthritis Foundation’s national board of directors which ended in 2007.  In addition, he spent 12 years on the board of directors for the Georgia chapter in roles ranging from Finance Chairman to Chairman of the Board.  Isakson’s leadership in business and philanthropy earned him recognition as one of Georgia Trend magazine’s “40 Under 40” high-achieving Georgians in 2007.  In addition, the Atlanta Business Chronicle named him one of the “40 Under 40 Up and Comers” in 2008.  John is also on the board of directors of the Atlanta Opera and serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council at Tulane University.

Isakson is active in government and political affairs and is the son of US Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA).  Isakson’s early professional career included a stint in Legislative Affairs for the Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Since then, his political efforts have included a variety of voluntary and consultative roles in statewide and national campaigns.  These campaigns include, state and local legislative races, Congressional races (both House and Senate) and presidential campaigns.
