For 35 years, Pat FitzGerald, managing principal of FitzGerald Associates Architects, has been an innovator in urban infill housing – contributing more than 20,000 units to Chicago’s housing stock across many asset different classes including affordable, public, student, market-rate, and luxury housing; loft conversions and low-, mid-, and high-rise mixed-use buildings. As both an architect and developer, he has demonstrated the viability of some long-neglected formats including townhomes, rowhouses and courtyard apartment buildings. A pioneer and champion for sustainable design and sophisticated urban planning concepts, Pat has long-focused his work on a project’s impact on the dynamic of the existing neighborhood, and has been instrumental in creating a more positive environment for neighborhood residents.
